SDUST,China Internship

I had the opportunity to join an internship program at SDUST, China as an undergraduate research assistant.

I have worked under Dr.Shi Hao in the Department of Mechanical and Electronics Engineering.

This was a valuable opportunity to get a research experience on mechatronics projects conducted at the transport robotics laboratory.

Libo Heavy Industries, Taian, China

I was able to learn about conveyor belt systems during a two-week internship and at the end participated in an idea-sharing session on how to develop long-range communication systems for longer belt systems using Modbus communication.

Qingdao Vocational Institute, Robotics Laboratory

ABB is one of the leading robotics arm manufacturers and during this visit I could learn about teaching ABB arms for pick and place tasks using a teaching pendent.

Transportation Robotics Laboratory

Under supervision of Dr.Shi Hao I could closely inspect robotics systems in this laboratory.Which helped me later during final year research project to design and implement a control system for a AGV system.

Vibration Pattern Recognition using CNN

The vibration Generation project was a subpart of an ongoing research project on pipe defect analysis. I could gain practice in Vibration generation and signal analysis using lab equipment.

Vibrations were given to a metal pipe and sensors are mounted on the outer surface. Accelerometers and probes were used to collect vibration data. Saved data used to plot and analyze signal patterns. Further, CNN algorithms were studied to implement for pattern recognition task.

PLC control system implementation for a conveyor belt inspection system

This system is proposed to find defects in long-range conveyor belt systems. A proximity sensor array with 2 DoF has been used to inspect every location of the belt. Stepper motors are used to drive the sensor array using a linear guide arrangement. The system consists of a Human Machine Interface(HMI) and my part of the project was to convert the system to a PLC-controlled system.

Cultural Exposure

I was could learn and enjoy Chinese culture during this period. I visited historical sights, festivals and enjoyed the food.
